The Gurung Heritage Trail is a culturally enriching trek that takes you through the heartland of the Gurung community in Nepal. Managed by Best Trips Nepal, this 12-day journey offers a unique blend of cultural immersion and natural beauty, traversing traditional villages, terraced fields, and rhododendron forests with panoramic views of the Annapurna and Lamjung Himal ranges.

Starting from Besisahar, the trail passes through picturesque Gurung villages like Ghalegaun, Ghanpokhara, Bhujung, and Pasgaun. These villages are renowned for their hospitality, cultural performances, and well-preserved traditions. Trekkers will have the opportunity to stay in community-run homestays, participate in local customs, and enjoy traditional Gurung cuisine.

Day to Day Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a friendly representative from Best Trips Nepal will welcome you, holding a sign with our logo. You’ll be transferred to your hotel where you can rest or explore the lively streets of Kathmandu. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner featuring traditional Nepalese cuisine and cultural performances—a perfect way to start your journey. Overnight at a comfortable hotel in Kathmandu.

Spend the day discovering Kathmandu’s rich heritage with visits to the Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan, each with its unique charm. Experience the peaceful Boudhanath Stupa, the hilltop Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), and the sacred Pashupatinath Temple by the Bagmati River. After this cultural immersion, return to your hotel for a restful night.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic 6-hour drive to Pokhara, enjoying rivers, villages, and lush green hills along the way. For a quicker option, take a 30-minute flight. Once in Pokhara, spend the afternoon exploring the lakeside, boating on Fewa Lake, or relaxing in cafés. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara.

Begin the trekking adventure with a short drive to Bijayapur Khola. The trail starts gently through flat paddy fields, crossing a river, and ascending to Kalikasthan. Drive on to Thunsikot for your first night in a local homestay, where you’ll experience the warm hospitality of the Gurung community and enjoy traditional meals.

Today is more challenging but rewarding as you trek steeply to Pas Gaon, a picturesque village rich in Gurung traditions. Experience authentic lifestyles, homemade cuisine, and timeless architecture. Relax in your homestay and reflect on the day’s cultural immersion.

Continue through dense forests to Khumeru Danda (2,200m), with panoramic views of Manaslu, Himal Chuli, and more. Descend to Midim River and then uphill to Bhujung, home to over 400 Gurung families preserving rich cultural heritage. Enjoy your stay in this welcoming village homestay.

Trek to Ghale Gaon, a Gurung and Ghale village known for deep cultural roots and stunning views of Lamjung, Annapurna, and Manaslu ranges. Overnight in a local homestay with traditional meals and hospitality.

A rest day to explore Ghanpokhara village, surrounded by majestic peaks. Immerse yourself in local culture or simply relax amid serene landscapes. Overnight at a homestay with warm hospitality.

Descend from Ghanpokhara to Khudi (5-6 hours), passing a stunning waterfall and a hidden cave. Visit the Khudi Hydro Electricity Project before settling in for the night at a guesthouse.

Drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying views of villages, terraced fields, and rivers framed by the Himalayas. Arrive in Kathmandu with time to relax or explore the city on your own. Overnight at a hotel.
